Every day at the ADRA Hub, lives are being touched through compassion, practical support, and the generosity of those who make this ministry possible. Thanks to the faithful support of our donors, staff and volunteers continue to build meaningful relationships while meeting the immediate needs of some of our community’s most vulnerable members.
Reaching Our Neighbours
On July 19, our outreach team visited a nearby encampment, connecting with approximately 80 unhoused community members. Along with distributing Gatorade, snacks, and other essentials, the team spent time listening to and encouraging community members.
As temperatures climbed to between 35-38°C during a recent heatwave, the ADRA Hub also established a canopy outside the centre to provide relief from the extreme heat. Throughout the day, staff distributed water, cold drinks, sunscreen, and snacks to anyone in need. The response from the community was inspiring: passersby even stopped to donate Gatorade, chocolates, and other supplies as a way of thanking the team for their care and dedication.
Stories of Hope
Earlier this month, one of our staff members witnessed a woman in crisis preparing to jump from a bridge. Without hesitation, he approached her, listened with empathy, and reminded her that she was not alone. Through kindness, conversation, and a comforting presence, she chose to step back to safety. Emergency services were contacted to ensure she received the ongoing care and support she needed following a recent traumatic loss.
We also welcomed back a familiar face to the Hub: a man who had visited the centre before its reopening. He shared the wonderful news that he has now celebrated one full year of sobriety. Filled with gratitude that the Hub’s doors were open once again, he requested food and supplies not only for himself but also for five friends. It was our privilege to provide them with the support they needed.
These are just two of the many stories unfolding every week at the ADRA Hub. Each conversation, meal, bottle of water, and moment of compassion reminds people that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.
To the donors and supporters of this initiative: thank you. Your generosity makes this work possible. Because of you, lives are being impacted every day through practical assistance, hope, and the love of Christ in action. We are deeply grateful for your partnership as we continue serving our community together.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, ADRA Canada was able to distribute emergency cash assistance to iver 70 families impacted by the fires. These funds helped cover essential expenses including food, medicine, baby supplies, temporary housing, and transportation costs during evacuation and recovery.
In Marcel Colomb First Nation, Manitoba, ADRA worked alongside community leadership to support vulnerable households facing displacement and significant land-based losses. Councillor Amanda Castel shared, “The families were very happy with the extra funds from your donations to buy more food, baby items and all so it’s very expensive in store prices as well up here in the north. They were very happy when I gave them the donation in person. Thanks again.”
Even months after the fires, the emotional impact remains profound. One beneficiary from Denare Beach, Lisa, wrote: “I don’t know if I am capable of coming out with the right words of gratitude at this moment. The surprise of this support brought me just about to tears… This surprise has definitely helped lift my spirit in having faith that good will come along this path I was put on.”
Stories like Lisa’s are a reminder that emergency response is about more than immediate relief. It is about restoring dignity, hope, and stability during moments of deep crisis.
To every donor who gave in response to the 2025 wildfires: thank you. Your generosity provided practical relief during an incredibly painful time. More importantly, it reminded families facing loss that they were not forgotten.
As communities continue the long journey of rebuilding, your support continues to make a lasting difference.
