Solidarité avec le Liban
Since the end of February, more than 2,000 people have been killed and 20,000 injured across 14 countries in southwestern Asia—also known as the “Middle East.” Almost 4 million people have been internally displaced, while schools, hospitals, health centres, and energy infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed.
Amidst the increased violence, ADRA has set sights on helping where we can make the most impact: Lebanon—where more than 810,000 people are displaced, 290,000 of whom are children. Alongside Canada’s Humanitarian Coalition—with twelve member bodies, including our friends in the Canadian Foodgrains Bank—ADRA is stepping up to meet the suffering in southwest Asia with Justice, Compassion, and Love.
We are already on the scene serving people in need in the areas around Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and Beqaa. ADRA Lebanon is currently supporting over 430 households that have been forced to flee into evacuation centres. These families are receiving care in the form of drinking water, hot meals, hygiene and dignity kits, blankets, and bedding. But there are so many more who need help, and the need is not going away anytime soon.
Children across Lebanon are deeply affected by this situation. Seven-year-old Rami from Baalbek should have been worrying about homework and playing football with his friends, but instead, he had to flee his home with his family as the bombing intensified. Even though he is in a safer place now, Rami, like many displaced children, hopes for peace and a chance to return to school and see his friends again.
“We are deeply alarmed by the escalating military violence that is shattering lives throughout the region. Humanitarian needs are rising by the hour. We are urgently calling on the generosity of Canadians to donate today to support life-saving humanitarian aid for children and families caught in this conflict.”
– Tiffany Baggetta, Humanitarian Coalition Executive Director
