Sopheak’s Journey of Growth Through the ADRA TOGETHER Project, ADRA Canada

Run Sopheak lives in a small farming community in Cambodia, she and her husband worked tirelessly to provide for their two children. At just 24 years old, Sopheak had trouble navigating life with her young family. She described her husband as often being negligent, dismissive, and cold towards her – rarely, if ever, listening to what she had to say. Sopheak had few prospects outside of the marriage. Poverty and desperation had forced her to drop out of school in the 8ème grade.

When ADRA’s TOGETHER project began organizing meetings in her village, she began to attend.

“Over the past five months, I’ve learned so much about parenting, communication, and equal rights. Through group discussions and workshops on decision-making, negotiation, and protection from abuse, I gained valuable insights that I began sharing with my husband.”

Today, their relationship is much different than before. The couple have learned how to communicate better and to listen to each other properly. Sopheak describes it as a journey of growth and healing.
