Project Context

The “Aleppo and Lattakia Earthquake Food Assistance (ALFA)” project in Syria was launched in response to the devastating earthquakes that struck the Aleppo and Lattakia regions, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation due to ongoing conflict and economic hardship. The earthquakes caused widespread destruction, displacing thousands of families and disrupting access to food, water, and essential services. The affected populations, already vulnerable due to years of conflict, faced increased risks of food insecurity and malnutrition. The ALFA project aims to address these urgent needs by providing immediate food assistance and support to the most vulnerable households.

Project Summary

The ALFA project has effectively responded to the urgent food security needs of earthquake-affected communities in Aleppo and Lattakia, Syria. Key activities included the distribution of emergency food parcels to displaced and vulnerable families, ensuring access to basic nutrition in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. The project also collaborated with local partners to set up temporary distribution centers and coordinate relief efforts, prioritizing assistance for households with children, elderly members, and those with special needs. Despite logistical challenges and security constraints in the earthquake-affected areas, the ALFA project adapted its approach to ensure timely and efficient delivery of aid. The project has played a critical role in alleviating immediate hunger, stabilizing food security, and supporting the resilience of communities as they begin to recover from the earthquakes.
