As military violence and civil conflict have broken out in Sudan, several surrounding eastern and north-eastern African nations are feeling the strain. Not only are refugees pouring into Egypt, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Central African Republic among others, but many of these nations are struggling to support these newly displaced people while also suffering through one of the worst ongoing droughts in recent memory. People facing disastrous food insecurity and hunger are being asked to bear the weight of a violent humanitarian crisis.
As part of Canada’s Humanitarian Coalition through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), ADRA is ready to make a difference. The government of Canada will match up to 5 million dollars in donations made by Canadians under $100,000 to a member of the humanitarian coalition by June 30. The money donated will help respond to the crisis in Sudan, and to the drought and famine conditions in numerous eastern African countries.
As the temperature of global suffering continues to rise, let us all choose to stand together, not alone.
