At 31 years old, Anthony’s story is one of profound transformation—a powerful testament to the impact of compassion, community, and the right support at the right time. Once consumed by addiction, shame, and the burden of unhealed wounds, Anthony struggled with his identity, mental health, and trust within his own family. But today, thanks to the New Life Neighbourhood Centre’s Productivity HUB, funded by supporters, he stands tall as a college student, a leader, and a beacon of hope for others on their recovery journeys.
Before joining the Productivity HUB, Anthony had already taken small but meaningful steps toward healing through workshops and peer support training. It wasn’t until he entered the HUB that everything began to change. “From the first couple of sessions, I knew this was much different than anything else I had done during my recovery,” he recalls. Through skill-building, one-on-one coaching, and emotional healing, Anthony not only found his voice, but he began to like himself for the first time in years.
The HUB’s community-oriented, growth-focused approach gave Anthony the tools and confidence he needed. With support from the program, he completed first aid and digital skills training, upgraded his English at Durham College, and is now in his second semester of the Social Service Worker program, doing his placement right back where it all started, at the Productivity HUB.
Anthony’s transformation isn’t just personal. He and his mother have grown closer and now attend Sabbath worship services together. As he approaches three years of sobriety, Anthony is surrounded by a loving network of friends and family who believe in him. His mission now is clear: “To inspire others with my story, remove stigma towards mental health and addiction, and show that recovery is possible.”
Thanks to the generous support of donors, the Productivity HUB has become a lifeline for individuals like Anthony. It offers more than skills—it offers second chances, restored dignity, and new beginnings.
