Maria Gorodova, a dedicated psychologist at ADRA Ukraine, is making a significant impact on the lives of children and adults in Bucha City of the Kyiv Region. Her work with young people focuses on addressing critical issues like aggression, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.

“I recently conducted a training session with a 7th-grade class on the topic of aggression and conflict,” Maria shares. This topic is crucial, as many children struggle to manage their emotions and navigate difficult social situations. By equipping them with practical tools and strategies, Maria empowers them to respond constructively to challenges and build healthier relationships.

One particularly tough case involved a young girl who was experiencing suicidal thoughts. Her mother, deeply concerned, sought help from Maria. Through careful assessment and counselling, Maria discovered that the girl’s thoughts stemmed from a longing for connection and recognition; without it, she harbored feelings of neglect and inadequacy. By teaching her effective communication skills and providing emotional support, Maria helped the girl express her feelings healthily and overcome her dark thoughts.

The work of psychologists like Maria is essential, especially in times of crisis and uncertainty. As Ukraine continues to face challenges, the need for mental health support is greater than ever. By providing compassionate care, psychologists can help individuals and communities heal and thrive. Thanks to the generous support received, ADRA Ukraine has been able to provide essential mental health services to those in need and offer hope and healing to the community.

Maria’s story is a testament to the power of support. It reminds us that even in the darkest of times, hope and healing are possible. By investing in mental health, we can create a brighter future for all.
