In Kenya, the TOGETHER Project continues its work in villages across the region, bringing support to families like Longole’s. Her daughter, Regina, shares her story, showing the impact of education and opportunities.

Longole was born and raised in her village. She grew up with a single mother who didn’t go to school and didn’t value education until Longole was past school age. Longole later married, but her husband was irresponsible and didn’t provide for them, leaving her to take care of the children alone. An opportunity came when one of Longole’s daughters joined ADRA’s training through the TOGETHER Project. She came home one day and told her mother about what she learned: the importance of school and respecting parents, and the chance for a better life and to support their family.

Longole hopes her children will finish school. She sees how other families with educated children are able to support their parents. She works hard to afford the school fees, managing to send four out of five of her kids. If exams cost 200 shillings, she makes sure they have it. As Regina says, “It’s so pure, it’s just in her heart that she wants for them to go to school. If she has anything to support them with, she gives it. It’s knowledge that helps people to change their way of thinking.”

The TOGETHER Project is working to make this hope a reality for countless children by providing essential resources like supplies, bags, and qualified teachers. It’s thanks to the support of donors that we’ve already been able to reach so many families and students, opening doors to opportunities that once seemed impossible. We thank everyone for helping us to prioritize education and empower communities.
