We have been working for some time in Turkana County, Kenya. Your support for ADRA has been giving multiple communities a chance to build a better future for themselves. One group of 22 people – consisting of 10 men and 12 women – has grown from growing no vegetables to having 5 acres of crops to farm, as well as an acre of pasture for animals. Meanwhile, a few members of the community used money from their savings and loans group to start a collective poultry enterprise.

In another community, a woman named Jacqueline is the lead farmer in her community and makes enough of an income from her vegetables that she was recently able to buy a smartphone. Her husband John is supportive of her efforts and leadership. While their personal vegetable farm is doing well, their community’s broader collective farm has recently gotten started after your generous donations helped ADRA install a water system in their area.

In Lodwar town, Elizabeth is one person in a larger community of disabled people who received your support in the form of cash transfers from ADRA. Not letting her blindness deter her from making positive steps, Elizabeth participated in her village’s savings and loans group and saved up enough money to buy a goat – which she affectionally named “ADRA!”

As you continue to support ADRA, you empower people like these remarkable individuals to reclaim agency over their lives, and lift their whole communities out of hunger and poverty.
