On March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar near Mandalay, causing widespread devastation for the nearby populations. The epicenter was just 17 kilometers from the city, and tremors were felt across the country, reaching as far as Thailand.

Thousands of families in Mandalay and Sagaing Regions suddenly found themselves without homes, belongings, or any sense of stability. Communities were shaken both physically and emotionally.

“When the second quake struck, fire burst from the center of our house,” said a 33-year-old mother. “Everything burned. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.”

In the days that followed, ADRA Myanmar joined local and international partners in providing emergency relief. Alongside critical psychological support to help people process the heavy trauma that the catastrophe caused, ADRA provided financial assistance so families could address their most urgent needs — whether purchasing household items, covering temporary shelter costs, or managing daily expenses while staying with relatives or in shared spaces.

“This support helps us buy what we truly need. We’re now living in someone else’s yard, but with this assistance, we can start preparing for our own shelter. We are truly grateful,” a recipient said.

Because of generous donations, families in Myanmar were able to meet urgent and essential needs quickly in the days after the disaster — taking the first steps toward rebuilding their lives after such terrible devastation.

One recipient shared, “We are so thankful to the donors who made this possible. Your kindness brings hope to families like ours.” Your compassion brings hope in the midst of devastation.
