You have been instrumental in bringing much-needed support to Anahid – a 57-year-old woman who has endured and survived through several immense struggles. Formerly a hospital worker, Anahid was forced to quit her job a long time ago after being diagnosed with diabetes and a severe thyroid condition. Her health problems became severe enough that 11 years ago, she was forced to have her left foot’s toes and her entire right leg amputated.

Life became increasingly difficult for her after the surgery. Political and economic instability in Lebanon have particularly made living conditions quite strained. Her husband works in construction to support them. But what was once a livable salary no longer covers all their needs, and the expenses and costs associated with Anahid’s condition have continued to accumulate. To make matters worse, their small, one-bedroom apartment is in a neighbourhood that was significantly impacted by the Beirut explosion in 2020.

In the face of so many compounding struggles, perhaps the most immediate and pressing problem was that Anahid and her husband often could only eat one meal per day, if they were lucky. Thanks to you, ADRA has been providing them with e-cards that are redeemable for food and other vital goods. Anahid’s special dietary needs include items like yogurt and light, unsalted cheeses – items that had formerly been inaccessible for her much of the time. She and her husband are now regularly eating two meals daily rather than just one.
