“I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them.” Job 29:12, NIV

Job had a reputation. And it was a good one. It was so stellar, God Himself boasted of His servant Job before a heavenly assembly. “He is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” (Job 1:8, NIV)

Job’s reputation of justice, compassion, and love did more than make him look good. Job’s life revealed God’s character in its true light. The world around Job could see that his God was the God of love, compassion, and justice.

We can share in Job’s reputation. The way we live and the way we engage with our world can be a tangible testimony of God’s reputation. We can “see that justice is done, let mercy be [our] first concern, and humbly obey [our] God.” (Micah 6:8, CEV) By doing so, we make known God’s just and merciful character.

Cyclone Ana, which made landfall in Mozambique on January 24, 2022, presents us with an immediate opportunity.

Ushering in the 2021-2022 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season, Cyclone Ana ploughed into Mozambique with heavy rains that triggered deadly floods. The deluge claimed five lives and negatively impacted over 48,000 people. Temporary shelters are hosting 4,605 people who lost their homes. Nearly 3,000 homes have been destroyed. The devastation has drowned 15,696 hectares of crops, including rice, vegetables, and legumes.

For a population that is largely rural and dependent on local agriculture, Cyclone Ana is truly disastrous. Another storm, Cyclone Batsirai, is positioning to hit some of the same areas devastated by Cyclone Ana.

ADRA’s response is already underway. Two specially trained emergency response teams have been deployed. ADRA has assisted families with finding shelter and has obtained and erected shelter tents.

But this is only the beginning; much more needs to be done to save lives.

We need your help.

The needs are immediate, including emergency food, hygiene kits, additional shelters, and more. The needs are also long-term, as crops for the year are wiped out, homes are destroyed, and schools are badly damaged.

Like Job, we hear the calls for help. Like Job, together we can bring rescue and relief to those in need. Like Job, we can show the world that our God cares.

ADRA, in partnership with the global ADRA network, is raising funds to provide lifesaving assistance to the survivors of Cyclone Ana in Mozambique. Gifts to ADRA’s Emergency Fund will save lives and help families in Mozambique be ready before the next disaster. To give today, please click here.

Together, we can show our God’s character of justice, compassion, and love to the survivors of Cyclone Ana.
