One Month Later: Fires Still Burn in the Heart of Canada

The long-standing stereotype of Canada as a cold country is melting away more quickly than many would have thought.

On Thursday, May 29, Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced a 30-day province-wide state of emergency as 17,000 people were forced to flee from their homes. The fires were precipitated by dry, hot conditions throughout the province – the forested areas, a tinderbox waiting to ignite. Homes, cherished memories, and even lives are at risk.

Hunger Threatens to Devour Yemen

The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen is continuing to worsen. Families across the nation of 17.1 million people are facing devastating levels of hunger. Among them, 2.3 million children under five are suffering from severe malnutrition and are in dire need of help.

Lebanon Response 

As conflict surged across Syria and southern Lebanon in late 2024, families already living on the edge were pushed into deeper crisis. Over 100,000 people were newly displaced in Syria following a dramatic shift in power, while 74,000 fled violence in southern Lebanon—many crossing borders in search of safety.
