Across the country, Ukrainian families have found refuge thanks to your generosity. ADRA has used your support to empower these families as they adjust to a new life. We’ve connected them with welcoming communities, provided essential items to help them settle in, and offered ongoing support to ease their transition.
Ivan and his wife have found belonging and hope in their new community filled with kind people like you. They’re a retired couple from Ukraine, who never expected to leave their peaceful village life. The war, however, forced them into the difficult decision of uprooting their lives and immigrating to Canada just a year ago.
Starting over at their age wasn’t easy and finding work was nearly impossible. They felt hopeless and discouraged and it wasn’t until a young Ukrainian girl invited them to join her church choir that they felt joy again. Singing and music filled them with hope, and soon enough, they found work to support themselves.
As the holiday season approached, Ivan and his wife were faced with a decision. To join the church choir in their annual Christmas concert or to pick up an extra shift that would provide their next week of groceries. They chose to sing with the choir and join their newfound community in the festivities, not expecting what was to come.
It was that night that ADRA provided gift cards for all newcomers from Ukraine, and it was this gift that secured the couple’s groceries for the week. They had found something more than just a choir in Canada; they discovered a supportive network, a renewed sense of faith, and a new village that embraced them. In Canada, miles away from home, Ivan and his wife found hope thanks to your support that continues to surprise and provide for families!
